Objective Biotechnology Secures NIH STTR Grant to Advance Mini-mScope for Whole-Brain Imaging
Minneapolis, Sept 19th, 2025 — Objective Biotechnology is proud to announce that it has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This prestigious award will accelerate the commercial development of the mini-mScope, a groundbreaking compact imaging system designed to enable whole-brain imaging in freely behaving rodents.
Transforming Neuroscience Research
The mini-mScope represents a significant leap forward in neuroimaging technology. Traditional imaging systems often require animals to be restrained, limiting the ability to study natural behaviors. By contrast, the mini-mScope allows researchers to capture high-resolution, whole-brain activity while rodents move freely in their environment. This innovation opens new avenues for understanding complex brain functions, behavioral neuroscience, and neurological disorders.
Collaboration Driving Innovation
This project is powered by a strong collaboration between Objective Biotechnology and the University of Minnesota Department of Mechanical Engineering, led by Dr. Suhasa Kodandaramaiah. Dr. Kodandaramaiah’s pioneering work in miniaturized neurotechnologies laid the foundation for the mini-mScope, and this partnership exemplifies the synergy between academic research and entrepreneurial innovation.
“Our goal is to bring cutting-edge tools from the lab to the hands of researchers worldwide,” said [Insert Objective Biotechnology spokesperson name]. “The mini-mScope will empower scientists to explore brain dynamics in ways that were previously impossible.”
Expanding the Frontiers of Neuroscience
With NIH support, Objective Biotechnology aims to refine the mini-mScope for commercial deployment, ensuring it meets the rigorous standards required for research applications. This technology promises to accelerate discoveries in areas such as learning and memory, neurodegenerative diseases, and brain-computer interfaces.
