Assembly Technician (Part-time)

Location: Minneapolis – Bryn Mawr area (On-site)
Hours: 10–20 hours per week

Objective Biotechnology is a robotics and life sciences startup building automated systems for biological manipulation, including robotic microinjection and neurotechnology platforms.

We design and deploy precision mechatronic systems, computer vision pipelines, and instrument control software used by leading research labs worldwide.

Role Overview

We are looking for an Assembly Technician to support the hands-on assembly, testing, and operation of precision instruments and robotic systems.

This role is ideal for candidates with an interest in mechanical systems, electronics, robotics, or manufacturing, and who enjoy working directly with hardware.

You will work closely with engineers to build and improve real systems used in cutting-edge research environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and build precision mechanical and electromechanical components

  • Fabrication and quality-control inspection of precision microinjection needles (micropipettes)

  • Support integration of robotic systems and laboratory instrumentation

  • Perform basic wiring, alignment, and calibration of system components

  • Assist with testing and troubleshooting hardware and system performance

  • Contribute to prototyping and iterative product development

  • Support light manufacturing and production of components for internal and customer use

  • Maintain organized workspaces, tools, and assembly documentation

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or completed education in:

    • Mechanical Engineering

    • Electrical Engineering

    • Mechatronics / Robotics

    • Manufacturing / Engineering Technology

  • Hands-on experience with any of the following is a strong plus:

    • Mechanical assembly or prototyping

    • Basic electronics or wiring

    • CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.)

    • Python or scripting (for hardware interaction)

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision hardware

  • Problem-solving mindset and interest in building and fixing systems

  • Self-motivated and comfortable working in a startup environment

  • Biology experience is not required

  • Eligible to work in the United States
